Recently, Pueblo Nuevo Language School organized a trip for children to Jarandilla natural centre, in Castellar. Some of their parents wanted to come as well and we thought it would be a fantastic idea so that we could spend a wonderful day together, children and adults.

We arrived at the camp at about 11:00 0´clock in the morning. Pepe Fuentes, the owner, and the camps leaders and instructors were waiting for us. They gave us a friendly welcome and invited us to start with the activities they had prepared for our visit.

As we were about 30 participants, we were divided into groups in order to make activities more fun and participative. There were many things to take part in: zip wire, canoeing, archery, rock climbing, suspension bridge crossing to name a few. It was great to see children and parents joining in and laughing together.

The activities took us the whole morning and part of the afternoon. At about 13.00, we had lunch. Afterwards, in an outside area surrounded by trees, we were offered coffee and tea, while the children danced or played table football.

The children were impatient while we were having our coffee, because they were promised a swim in the swimming-pool. Finally, we went to the pool and the children had a great time for an hour and a half. Of course, there were more activities programmed for the evening, hiking, or a visit to a green house among others, but it was getting on and we had to return home. The children didn’t want to but we had to. Anyway, I promised that next year we would repeat the experience. I am sure, both children and parents had a great time and enjoyed a wonderful day out in the countryside.

La Jarandilla is an environmental education centre located in Castellar within the Alcornocales Natural Park. It’s a fantastic place to enjoy nature. They organize many activities, such as described above, also: bird and animal watching, mountain bike trials, games, trekking and other outdoor activities. They also have good and modern facilities fitted with dining room, kitchen, living room with a fireplace, assembly hall, ecological museums, swimming pool, barbecue area, camp-site, five modules provided with bedrooms, living room and individual bathrooms. Visitors are welcome on day trips as well as longer periods.

The Nature Centre is located within “La Almoraima” estate, on the road to Castellar Old Town. Turning left at the crossroads by the “Jarandilla” restaurant, the centre is only a few metres down from here.
