Southernmost tip of Andalusia

In the Campo de Gibraltar you will find a unique diversity of wild life, geographical forms and a natural history which spans millions of years. In the area around Algeciras, Los Barrios, Castellar de la Frontera, Jimena de la Frontera and Tarifa, the Natural Park “Los Alcornocales” has a great variety of plant and wild life, due to its situation between two oceans and extensive mountain ranges.



There are more than 170.000 hectares which make it one of the biggest national parks, here you find Cork Oaks, Gall Oaks, Wild Olive trees, Riverbank Forests and Mediterranean Scrubland. Along side many of the small streams you can find a variety of unique European vegetation.

Alcornocales Natural Park and Campo de Gibraltar contains many leisure areas including, in Tarifa (El Bujeo and Los Tornos), Jimena de la Frontera (Los Acebuchales) and Los Barrios (Molinos de Raudal, Montera del Torero and Charco Redondo). In Los Barrios enjoy the fabulous views from Puerto Ojén where you can see, for example Ruta del Toro, where some of the most renowned fighting bulls are raised. The gorge of Rio de la Miel represents one of the most valuable natural environments in Campo de Gibraltar. It is located next to high mountains creating a special microclimate which is why you will find many different species of plants, a diversity of animals, fantastic views and the waterfall “La Chorrera”.

The Straits of Gibraltar is a very important place for birds, scientists and students of ornithology. The geographical situation of Campo de Gibraltar between two continents and two seas make it the home of millions of birds every year. The bird’s migration is one of the most spectacular phenomenons that nature can offer us and the Straits of Gibraltar is one of the best places in Europe to experience it. This area is also a magnificent place to study sea life, where you can find many different species of cetaceans: Dolphins and Whales. This is due to the proximity between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea. You can also see the biggest marine mammals, like the Blue Whale and Killer Whales.
